I strongly believe that every child of God should learn to interpret their own dreams as it is not difficult.
The process of learning draws you closer to God as it makes it easier for you to understand what He says when He speaks to you in your dreams.
Every symbol that I share will be one that I have learnt through observation, prayer and spending time in the Word. I will not share any symbol of which the Holy Spirit has not provided me with revelation.
A GUN IN A DREAM IS SYMBOLIC TO A SPIRITUAL WEAPON
A gun in a dream symbolizes a weapon that is used against you with the intent to kill or destroy. The Bible tells us that...
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy..." John 10:10
A handgun is generally used on a stationary target; someone or something that is not moving. You may notice that when people go hunting, they usually take a different type of gun and that is because every type of gun serves a different purpose.
Initially, this dream may seem as though it is related to physical harm but it is a dream that is highlighting a weapon that is being used against you, of which you may not recognize with your naked eyes.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12
Below are some handgun scenarios and their meanings:
1. Handgun pointed at you / Held at gunpoint means a weapon is being formed against you where the goal is to keep you stagnant.
Generally when a gun is just being pointed at someone, you think of a hostage situation. The initial aim of the armed person is not to kill you but to take something from you or prevent you from doing something.
THIS IS A WARNING DREAM! DO NOT go about your day without going on an immediate fasting and prayer. The Lord revealed this to you for you to stop it or if you cannot stop it, to minimize the effect before it is too late.
The context of the dream will help you to understand what this weapon represents in your waking life.
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn... Isaiah 54:17
It will also be useful, at a later time, to look up the weapons or tools that the devil uses against Christians (i.e. fear, delay, distraction, deception, sickness etc.).
2. Handgun pointed at you where you can feel the heat from the gun means a weapon is being formed against you and this same weapon was used against you multiple times in the past or it signifies something that is not of God that has been going on for too long.
I have learnt that a gun usually gets hot when it has been fired rapidly over a short period of time.
This dream speaks of something that the devil used against you recently and is now trying to use it against you in the present or something that is affecting you that you have been ignorant about for a long period of time.
I have had 2 dreams where a handgun with a heated muzzle was pointed at me. The muzzle is the part of the gun where the bullet comes through.
In the first instance, the gun was pointed at my heart and at that time I was in a relationship with someone who was outside of God's will for my life. We were together for almost 2 years. The gun in this dream represented deception that was going on for too long because I later realized that the gentleman was married.
The second was pointed on the right side of my head whilst I was looking at a buffering video on YouTube during a class. It is said that the right side is usually linked to the spiritual side of things...your call, destiny etc. whereas the left side has to do with your talents and skills. Every day since my childhood until the day of receiving this dream, I have binge watched movies and series and have not read my Bible or seriously prayed. The gun in this dream represented distraction that was current in my life and has been going on for too long.
The common theme in these dreams is that the devil was trying to keep me from walking in God's will; he was trying to keep me stagnant. The fact that I was never shot in any of these dreams meant that these weapons would not accomplish what the devil wanted.
I am no longer together with that gentleman and I have not watched anything secular since having that dream. The dream about distraction was really what got me into dream interpretation and my study and prayer life has been fairly consistent since then.
When you have gun dreams, it is always important to pay attention to the type of gun that is present.
I used to play a lot of call of duty and a handgun is usually a back up weapon as it can only make accurate shots at a closer range.
Hence, the weapon that the enemy is using, is being implemented through something that was said (words) or done (actions) by a partner, family member, a close friend or even you.
3. Being shot means an attack that is coming that will accomplish its goal.
I had a dream recently where I was in the middle seat of a moving car and someone from the back placed a handgun to my head and with no hesitation, shot me 3 times in my head. The gun in this dream represented something from my past (an old habit or behaviour) that will resurface and it will cause me to step outside of God's will for my life.
3 things happened after receiving this dream:
- Three days after receiving the dream, I began binge watching movies again
- Then I was influenced to engage in sexual immorality and
- Three Sundays passed where I did not go to church.
It took a lot of hard work to come back to a place where the Holy Spirit could come again and dwell in me and I learnt that unless the lesson from a mistake is learnt, the mistake will happen again, so no matter how much I prayed to God after receiving this dream, it still happened.
I do however believe that the prayer minimized the effect of the attack because the 3 shots also represented 3 months and I was outside of God's will from May 22 to July 31.
During that final week in July, the devil fought me so hard because on one particular Sunday, he did not want me to go to church, so much so that I had to visit the hospital late Saturday night. Even when we got home at 1 am in the morning, I was determined to go to church that last Sunday in July and it was on August 1st that I received a call that I will be standing behind the pulpit to minister.
I went more in detail in my book that I will be publishing soon, so be on the lookout for that.
4. Being shot at but the bullet misses means an attack that is coming that will not accomplish its goal.
Example:
The first time I ministered the Word at church, I had a dream that same night. In the dream there was a gathering at a house and I recognized 1 or 2 church members. Out of nowhere, there was this gentleman wearing a black outfit and he was approaching the premises with a handgun, then started shooting. The shots killed a lot of people where I was standing but I knew that I was his target. So I directed the crowd to run one way and I ran the opposite way and the gentleman followed me only and kept shooting at me but missed every time. The same day I woke up feeling as though the flu was coming on, however, I was able to interpret the dream to an extent, so I knew I was not going to get sick but the following Sunday when I went to church, it turns out that a lot of the members were absent because they were sick.
The gun in this dream represented sickness and the bullets represented its various forms (flu, cold, diarrhea etc.).
We know that the devil is the one who causes sickness because Jesus is the one who heals us from these sicknesses.
After understanding what the gun represents in your dream, you can pray accordingly.
